The safari starts in Kampala and you drive off to Lake Mburo National Park to carry out boat trips and game drives. There is an excellent variety of water and acacia savannah bird species (357 bird species) like crested crane, the rare shoebill stork, marabou stork and bronze-tailed starling, bee eaters and even more exotic birds like Blue Naped Coucal. You then head for gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Here you will view the terrain of the forest, the plant life, animal life and birdlife plus some butterflies, then head back to Kampala to find your departure flights.
Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala - Lake Mburo
After breakfast, depart Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park, a 230km drive having a stopover at the Equator and Royal drum makers. When approaching the park, you will have a game drive. Have lunch at the park and proceed for a boat trip on Lake Mburo to view bird and animal life at the banks. You will have dinner and an overnight at Mantana Tented Camp or Rwonyo camp.
Day 2: Mburo - Bwindi
After breakfast, have a game drive to view the Impala, Zebra, Warthog, Hyena, Leopard, Buffalo, Civet, Genet, Topi, Eland, Klipspringer, Oribi, Sitatunga, eland and crocodile. Enroute to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a home of mountain gorillas which is west across the Albertine Rift Valley, roughly 7hours. Its hilly and muddy topography attracts gorillas, birdlife such as the Bar Tailed Trogon, African Green Broadbill and many others. On your arrival, you may decide to have a nature walk which leads you to Munyaga Waterfall having an opportunity to view the blue monkeys, Grey-cheeked Mangabey and other primate species or an optional relaxation the accommodation unit. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Resort/Buhoma Community Bandas (Full Board)
Day 3: Gorilla trekking
After breakfast, depart with your packed lunch to the ranger headquarters where briefing will take place concerning gorilla trekking. The tracking may take between 2 and 6 hours with the help of experienced guides. It’s amazing to listen and observe the gorillas in the forest while they marvel and grumble to each other. In the afternoon relax at the camp or go for a Village walk to visit the Local Batwa Community returning to the Camp in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Resort/Buhoma Community Bandas (Full Board)
Day 4: departure
Head back to Kampala having lunch enroute. You may have a city tour depending on your departure flights.
